Known word-wide for its iconic landscapes and sub-tropical climate, Madeira is the crown jewel of the Portuguese islands.

Glamping is the perfect way to explore everything this nature-packed destination has to offer, without missing out on the comforts and relaxation other accommodations would provide!

Given that we have experienced most of what Portugal has to offer, we decided it was time to check out all the country has to offer outside of the mainland.

Canto das Fontes

Canto das Fontes was the first Eco Glamping project to start in Madeira Island, and is located near the small town of Ponta do Sol.

This unique accommodation overlooks the ocean from the top of a hill, and the sub-tropical climate of the island supports a lush variety of trees and plants. To add to the charm, a 30 meter waterfall is located on the property, as well as a refreshing natural pool.

The remote location of the stay will allow you to enjoy multiple outdoor activities, such as hiking, scuba diving and even paragliding!

This accommodation is ideal for anyone looking for a relaxing time in nature. The beautiful surroundings make for a peaceful environment, but there are also plenty of activities for thrill-seekers!

Mountain Eco Shelters

Located in walking distance from Pico do Arieiro, Madeira’s third tallest peak, the Mountain Eco Shelters are a peaceful oasis in the middle of the wilderness.

These wooden cabins were conceived to offer an “off-the-grid” experience for visitors looking to escape the hustle of everyday life. The shelters are very isolated, despite being only a 20 minute drive away from Funchal, Madeira’s capital.

To add to the immersion, Wi-Fi is only available at the reception and there is no TV provided in the cabins.⠀⠀⠀

Keep in mind that for longer stays you’ll definitely need a car to reach the closest grocery store. Free parking, however, is available! Alternatively, there is a snack bar located only a 5 minute walk away from the cabins.

With so many hiking trails available nearby, this accommodation really calls to nature lovers and adventurous trekkers. Along with walking routes, you’ll also find paths for mountain biking and canyoning!

Granny’s Farm

Our top pick for the northern part of Madeira has to be Granny’s Farm!

With the choice of either a chill bungalow or a cozy tent, this glamping stay located in the middle of the mountains is sure to offer one of the most impressive views anywhere on the island!

Here you’ll be sure to enjoy some relaxing peace and quiet away from the cities and the bustling southern half of the island.

That is not to say, however, that you won’t find anything to do around here; Hiking, cave exploring and swimming in the natural pools are just a few of the activities available in the area.

One walking route you should absolutely try when staying at Granny’s Farm is the Levada Fajã do Rodrigues. Expect a pretty wild hike passing through lush vegetation and under stunning waterfalls, so don’t forget to bring some waterproof clothing!

We definitely recommend this place for all outdoor enthusiasts, and families in particular will surely have a blast when staying here.

Soul Glamping

If it is luxury you are looking for, then Soul Glamping is the place for you!

This accommodation offers 5 spacious dome tents, beautifully decorated and with all the comforts and amenities you would expect from a premium stay.

Relax in a hot tub located on your very own private terrace, where you’ll be able to enjoy stunning views of the Sun setting over the ocean. In addition, you’ll also receive a generous breakfast basket every morning at your door!

Because of the small size of the property you can expect privacy and relaxation, as the place will never be overcrowded.

Soul Glamping really is the final word in luxury camping. If you’re travelling as a couple and are looking for the ultimate romantic spot in Madeira, be sure to check this one out!

Calheta Glamping Pods

Calheta Glamping Pods is, as the name suggests, located near the small village of Calheta.

In this glamping stay you will enjoy private and spacious pods, overlooking the ocean from the hill they are located on. Each pod also comes with a private terrace, as well as a kitchenette where you’ll be able to cook hand-picked produce from the gardens surrounding the property.

Among the amenities you can expect is a refreshing pool, perfect for relaxing at the end of a day spent in nature. From here you’ll also be able to enjoy some of the most stunning sunsets you’ll likely be able to see anywhere in the world!

Couples will surely appreciate the quiet and relaxing environment of this nature retreat. Larger pods are available for extended families, and kids are also bound to enjoy this stunning location!
