These German Villages Are Straight Out Of The Fairytales We Love


Apart from the Oktoberfest and Berlin’s signature nightlife, Germany has villages that inspired the Brothers Grimm for compiling folktales and fairytales like Red Riding Hood, Cinderella, and Sleeping Beauty. 1. Rothenburg ob der Tauber

You can only imagine the enchanting allure of this town, which attracted the filmmakers of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows to its grounds. With winding cobbled alleys, medieval-era townhouses with red-tiled rooms and a Christmas celebration so grand that the entire town is transformed into a winter wonderland, it’s no surprise that Rothenburg has been a constant name on the list of Germany’s prettiest villages.

2. Schiltach

Towards the eastern part of the Black Forest park lies the idyllic, picturesque little town of Schiltach. After hiking through the trails of forest, unwind at the half-timbered houses of Schiltach along the renowned Timber-Frame road. Just a stroll through its stone-cobbled streets is enough for you to lose your heart to Schiltach.

3. Rüdesheim am Rhein

4. Quedlinburg

5. Lindau

If you wish to experience a village that could’ve been straight out of a book, Lindau is the place to visit. Situated almost in the middle of a lake reflecting azure blue of the sky with towering snow-capped mountains adds to the vivid scenery. Lindau’s streets are just as mesmerising, especially when the village square comes to life during Christmas when the harbour hosts the Christmas markets.

6. Meersburg

On the shore of Lake Constance is the village of Meersburg, a modern-day incarnation of a medieval, quaint-little village of Meersburg, whose city line is dotted by the seventh-century Castle of Alte Burg.
