Autumn is almost (officially) here and we can’t be more excited for cool nights, seasonal festivals and the fall foliage. With everything coming up pumpkin spice and everything nice, we too are celebrating the season with our five favorite reasons why you should visit the famous Falls and the Niagara Region this season.
1. Falls Fireworks Cruises
Don’t worry your favorite Falls outdoor nighttime experience isn’t going anywhere… just yet. On October 14th, the Falls Fireworks Cruise will be coming to an end for the season and starting back up in May 2020. This means on weekends only, call up your friends, grab a light jacket and plan your weekend accordingly to see the sparks fly. We strongly encourage you to purchase your tickets online in advance. Tickets include access aboard our brand new Hornblower Niagara Funicular. Arrive early and enjoy a warm or cold beverage at our Riverside Patio.
2. Fall Foliage and Funicular Viewing
The Niagara Region is home to the Niagara Gorge, an 11 KM gorge carved around the Niagara River. In the Fall, the flora shows shades of warm reds and oranges as they lighten up the entire gorge making it a photographer’s paradise. Looking for the best view of the Fall foliage? Our brand new Hornblower Niagara Funicular offers unobstructed views of the scenery in the glass-enclosed and climate-controlled cars. Enjoy mesmerizing views of the turquoise waters and vibrant shades as you embark and disembark on the journey to our Hornblower Landing.
3. Festivals, Festivals, and did we say festivals?
Cooler weather means sweater weather, hot beverages and fall festivities. The Niagara Region is home to many seasonal festivals including the Annual Grape & Wine Festival in St. Catharines, Ontario, the Annual Balls Falls Thanksgiving Festival in Jordan, Ontario and Niagara Falls Oktoberfest in Niagara Falls to name a few.
4. Fall Harvest
Did you know that there are over 100 wineries in the Niagara region? September is the start of the harvest for the grape growers, meaning its a great time to witness the picking and pressing of the grapes on a winery tour. Enjoy the beautiful ambiance at each winery while smelling the sweet scents of freshly pick grapes and sipping on your favourite cabernet merlot.
5. Fruit Picking & Sampling
Niagara may be home to many award-winning and famous wineries, but it is also home to many apples, cherries, peach and pear orchards that leave a sweet scent in the air as you drive through the country roads. Don’t forget to stop at some of the fresh fruit stands from June to October along Niagara Stone Road as you make your drive into or out of Niagara-on-the-Lake wine county. Enjoy a mid-day afternoon drive with a stop in Niagara-on-the-Lake, Ontario for fresh and local jams, preserves and even local cheeses for a picnic along the Niagara Parkway.
So if you are looking at planning a trip to Niagara Falls and Niagara-on-the-Lake, Ontario this Fall be sure to call your friends and family, grab a light jacket and bring your camera for a picture-perfect visit through the world-famous destination.
